Some messages have showed up?
Wow!
Try and send me some more!
I’ll message you back if I get them.
I got two today :D
I couldn’t get a decent camera sorted to record this so this will just be a stream of consciousness in written form instead!
So where are we now?
Endless Routine has been in limbo for the past… I don’t know how long. Six months? This year has hit me with a whole host of emotions ranging from realising that my unrealistic expectations were… unrealistic to also finding out how hard it is to get sales going.
Since the release of ER’s first full length/third release It’s Not About The Progress…, sales have been non-existent. I’ve actually made a loss purely on the distribution side of things, which has been a very bitter pill to swallow, when I had previously gauged that interest was high based on fan feedback. As I had predicted wrongly that this wouldn’t be the case, I’ve found it hard to focus towards the next step and understand what to work towards.
Finances have been the biggest issue from the start, I work alone and have absolutely no money to back me up, but if I did I would find it hard to ascertain where to invest it. With the music business about to either A) End entirely or B) Move onto an entirely new model, it’s hard to know what route to go down in terms of buying new equipment/distribution/paying to tour live (oh and that’s bullshit).
Since ER began, I have been trying to advertise my music for free for an extended and regular period until I could generate music sales for myself, which was initially fine, from what I understood this system was working fairly well until the following happened…
Tumblr cut off my messaging system in March 2012 without warning or reasoning, any attempt I’ve made to contact them has been met with silence, despite e-mailing from various accounts and going through various channels, this I have absolutely NO explanation for. I presume the fact that I don’t pay to use their service means I get absolutely no assistance for using their website, which is pretty poor on their part. When my messaging was cut off, it cut off my primary route for advertising and communication – my only two tools to move my music forward. This has effectively been the killing blow for any chance of making my music popular.
Following Facebook’s decision to make posting on your page a paid service, that has stifled any chance of me even communicating the difficulties I was having with Tumblr, as I was hoping to move over to being Facebook-based following Tumblr’s ridiculous decision.
With this in mind, it makes me wonder how any prospective artist has a chance of selling their own music in the modern day post-labels. It seems like any previous gaps in the system have been cemented shut by those who wanted to find another way to line their pockets from the artists who are trying to find a way to put a cent in their own.
Additionally, since this month I have been working full time (Man’s gotta eat) and I have little time to work on new material, which only compounds the problem further.
This has led me to a stalemate - I have no funding, no way of communicating to my fans and very little time to work on either new material or even consider the prospect of touring, which is impossible and likely pointless due to the lack of funding, time and energy.
The support I had over 2011 was fantastic and I appreciated the kind words and support I received from you all, but this stage I feel has now long since passed and Endless Routine has become a project mostly forgotten.
My expectations were never to make it big, nor sign with a label, my music style or dare I say talent have never afforded me much in the way of chance in that avenue, my aspirations were only to make some form of income through my own music, that is all.
Despite the depressing tone of this post (rant), I am NOT calling it quits on creating music for Endless Routine, when I have some time I will still be able to create a few tracks here and there, but from what I’ve gathered that will probably be the grand extent of this project’s work for the future. It’s not what I expected would happen or what I wanted but that’s now the outcome.
I will have to take down the album/Soundcloud bonus space/downloads in the near future however because I just don’t have the money for pay for it.
Please forgive me for sounding quite bitter on this, but that’s my honest outlook on the situation. There will be more on this line at some point, but I don’t know when.
Any questions/thoughts please give me an e-mail at: AlexWebbEndlessRoutine@hotmail.co.uk
With love and best wishes,

If I can sort my camera I’ll do my thoughts tomorrow for you, if not I’ll just post it on Tumblr as an article. Cheers!
Hi all! Thought I’d let you know about something a bit different I’ve been thinking of doing lately. Over the next week when I’ve got some time home from work, I’m going to go over writing a big article/explanation/discussion of my feelings about Endless Routine and the music promotion/distribution business in general and post it on Tumblr… so this’ll probably happen on Friday and hopefully some of you guys will be interested to read it!
Thanks
Alex x
